They say that our eyes are the window to our soul,
so what does that make our eyebrows?
I would say one of our most important features.. I'm going to tell you how to achieve the perfect eyebrows...
As fashions have progressed, thicker eyebrows have definately become sexy and remain on all the catwalks so I would definitely recommend going to have your eyebrows shaped professionally to begin with at least, if you are determined to do it at home then follow these guide lines...
First of all you need to determine the natural shape of your eyebrows, forcing a different shape on your face just doesn't work, they will look more noticeable growing back and won't suit your face, the idea is to work with what you have.
Step 1: If you are trying to grow your eyebrows, begin by drawing in the desired shape with an eyebrow pencil. Then line a thin stick or pencil up with the with the outside edge of your nose and the inside corner of your eye (see image A) mark a dot here, any hair inside these dots should be removed.
Step 2: Line the stick again from the outer edge of your nose to the outside edge of your eye (see image C) and make a second dot, all hair outside of these dots should be removed.
Step 3: Lastly, and this might be tricky, line up the stick with the outside of the iris of the eye, mark a spot at the highest point of the eyebrow, this is where the highest point of your arch should be.
Now you should be ready to shape your eyebrows, holding an ice cube on the area for a few seconds before tweezing might numb the sensation, be sure to keep your skin and hands clean and clear of any makeup or irritating products, put something soothing such as aloe vera gel on afterwards to cool the skin.
My eyebrow shaping method of choice is threading, a relatively new method to the uk, but has been around for hundreds of years in the Middle East and India. Using a piece of 100% cotton thread looped to catch and pull the hair out, it results in a really precise and clean shape without irritating the skin. I charge £14 in the salon, but prices will vary. I definitely recommend this method over any others to get the best shape.
Homecare essentials
I recommend that you buy a good quality pair of tweezers such as tweezerman, you can buy these from boots for £20, definitely adviseable for precise tweezing and to ensure that the hairs don't break off. Also an eyebrow pencil that is a good colour match for your hair, Benefit do a brilliant little kit that is perfect for starting out complete with a coloured powder and wax and suitable brushes, a tiny pair of tweezers and even a mini lesson on how to create the perfect shape. Available from boots or Debenhams £22.50
If all else fails
If your eyebrows just simply wont grow or you have annoying gaps that never seem to fill in, you could try Semi-permenant make-up, which can last up to 3 years and gradually fade away, the answer to many a common problem such as scars, sparse patches of hair, over plucking or incorrect shape... contact Susan Bell for more information on 07974070077 for more details or to book an appointment at Jeanette Kidd Beauty and Day Spa.
